good deed or not good deed, that is the question.

So looking back over the course of the last few months, I've realized I've done a number of good deeds or noticed a number of people that have done good deeds. Yet, the world still has people in it that do stupid crap, or not so much of good deeds. Case and point, BP not cutting off the oil because the people working to cap the leak are apparently too stupid to figure out how to use a robot to cap an oil leak. (if a robot can retrieve artifacts from the sunken Titanic ship, how is this difficult?) This NOT good deed has led to panic across the southeast, yet they do nothing because they are not good deed doers. They are stupid people.
The good deed doers are the ones that are finding any and all sorts of ways to fix the problem or give more time for something to be more effectively put in place, but the irresponsibleness of this company makes a good deed currently seem like not buying BP gasoline (which i have myself ceased purchasing even though i typically bought from Quicktrip anyway).
Anyway, so in my good deed doing and good deed searching, I have concluded that it is harder to find people that stop and smell the roses, if you will, in a world filled filled with busy schedules, rushing around all the time, and hardly a moment to think or breathe without haveing any cares.
So my dear readers, I pause here and see where good deed doing will take me next!

Dear Bret Michaels...

GET BETTER SOON!!!

how much is that doggie in the window?

...well the dapple daschund at petland that I was so up and willing to adopt before i heard how much she cost was $699 and at that point I decided it was better to walk away than pine about how much i wanted this dog and try to beg my way into owning this cutie pie.
But let's backtrack to how i did this 3 month old dapple daschund with both blue eyes (for those of you who are looking for such a puppy let me know and I'll tell you where she is) a good deed today... even though that sounds dorky about how could a person do a dog in a pet store a good deed, but anyway...

SOOOO after an interesting adventure in the mall today, boyfriend and i decided to head over to Borders and check out some books for mothers day and just to have. well right next door they have a petland and they were hiring (and if you hadn't gotten i'm a animal lover by now, as much as i tried to write about good deeds, good deeds for animals works too). so we go inside and check out whats going on and they have a whole bunch of puppies in the window for sale. Boyfriend was not pleased because he's all "they come from puppy mills bla bla bla" yet how can you prove it if the breeder is actually reputable?

ANYWAY! so while he was being a kvetch and moaning and groaning about "we cant have a dog right now bla bla bla" i went up to the clerk and asked if i could play with this puppy. Oh my goodness, this thing was SOOOOO happy to be out of her cage and running around and chasing this little toy ball they have in the play pens. For me, just to see the happiness on this puppy's face was just amazing. Maybe it's me that thinks it's a good deed done to play with a pup that might be kooked up in a cage all day, but for that dog to be out and playing with people and running, chasing, having a good time, thats a good deed in my eyes...

Even though i didn't get to keep her (unless someone wants to donate $699 for me to take her home, anyone?), i just felt good that i got this pup out of her cage and got her a good half hour of exercise before she had to go back to her cage and i still wanted to keep her, but i knew that was not a possibility. I'm sad that shes still there in petland and has no one to give her a home (or any of those puppies that did not get taken home today) but I know some loving family or person will go get them...
SPEAKING OF WHICH (while i have your mind tuned into adopting a puppy!) don't forget about being a mentsh yourself and go adopt a pup or kitten from your local animal shelter, cause i know i'm not the only animal mentshy person out there!

so thanks for reading and check back for my next installment! (and seriously... if you do wanna make a donation to The Mentsh wants this dapple daschund she saw at petland, I'll gladly accept them!) :D

dog's day out

so in my latest good deed doing, I took my dog to wander around and through shoppes in the historic district of roswell. My westie loved it so much and so many people loved petting her, taking pictures of her, and whatnot. What was quite funny is there is this pet shoppe called "Pet Fancy" and they have all kinds of different doggie treats, toys, clothes, food, accessories, everything. So anyway, my sister decided to pick out a "Westie XING" sign to put in our backyard. When we checked out the lady at the store gave us like 10 sample size bags of dog food...
Now dear readers (of very few and far between) remember that little scroungy Yorkie I was telling y'all about? This babe is having the time of his life right now because he gets to try ten different types of dog food consisting of all shapes, sizes, and flavors. I'm not gonna document what i gave him and where and stuff, but i surely gave this pup doggie heaven by feeding him stuff my dog can't and will not eat in the first place.
I guess this is my good deed of the weekend, but ten days from now that dog's gonna be hungry for more and i'm not gonna have any to give him... oh well, he's survived on all kinds of mess before what says he wont now?
Poor dog just want's to be loved and petted and fed and taken care of... I guess you could say along with my dog, I foster the one that lives across the street from me and in a sense do a good deed for the neighborhood by watching out for him and make sure he does not get hit by cars, or eaten by wild animals, or whatever...
Good deeds, Good deeds!

adventures with the elderly

So here's my mentshing for the day. I went with my boyfriend to surprise his grandparents at the assisted living facility they live in. They were very surprised and so excited to have visitors... especially those being their grandson and his girlfriend. It put a special mark in their hearts to know that people care about them to where a girlfriend would be brought to meet them. His grandmother paraded us around proudly and introduced us to her friends in the assisted living facility with such a smile on her face I couldn't believe it. For elderly people it's like Christmas all over again when someone they do not expect to come spend the afternoon (or at least an hour or two) with them shows up and surprises them with flowers and candies and just joy and happiness to do something to make others feel splendid for maybe the greater part of the next week! It's good to make people happy, even if they are not necessarily your grandparents but those of someone who you care about a lot. When we left she seemed sad but we'll see her at a family BBQ soon. Good deeds, good deeds!

A friend to dogs

Am I a Mentsh for taking care of this poor dog that lives somewhat across the street from me? Because for as long as this dog has been alive, all i know is that no one in his actual home really takes care of him or feeds him or anything as he is a super skinny Yorkie with a flopped over ear even though both of his ears are way to big for his own body. This dogs fur is always matted and I've known an occasion or two where people have taken this dog in and given it a bath and then cut its hair before feeding it and sending it home.
It's not like I dont fill up a kiddie pool in the back yard and give him a bath either, but this poor thing he seems like he's just not as taken care of because he roams the neighborhood all the time to the point where people find him a burden. I find him no burden as my Westie is his best alli besides the other dog he lives with. For me, buying cheepo dog food with the extra cash i make on the weekends is nothing more than trying to help something that is as pitiful as this poor guy is.
I kinda wanna adopt him, but he's so scrappy that he'd have to be seriously taken to the vet and had some stuff done before that, plus i know the people that own this dog and they'd be kinda upset if I kinda just kidnapped this dog and took care of it... besides who would the black and white dog he lives with hang out with if the yorkie was gone?
Anyway, I guess I've been this dog's (and sometimes his buddy's) Mentsh as I watch out for them and sometimes feed them scraps or leftovers that would otherwise be thrown away, and whatever cheepo dog food i can find thats under 10 dollars a bag.

A Kvetch

SOOOO... As the Elite 8 are dwindeling down to the Final 4, I would just like to kvetch about how pissed off I am that Kentucky got knocked out by none other than West Virginia. Not only am I somewhat pissed I'm kinda really pulling for Tennessee to be working some kinda magic so at least one team from the great awesome SEC will be in the final... however there is always Duke to fall back on and things but still...
In a Mentchy way I'm trying to be a good sport and say let a team from the ACC win, but growing up where SEC rules everything, it's kinda hard to let that up and go for a division that yes has produed some of the great basketball winners ever but at the same time just falls a little flat of SEC greatness for me...
But anyway, if Tennessee screws up tomorrow, my allegiances may have to change and pulling for Duke to take it all...
I mean after all... since the tar heels are not even good this year, who is going to bring the state of NC yet another NCAA championship trophy?! I mean seriously, if Duke or Tennessee doesn't do something big to win from schools with no name... it'd be not only surprising (as much as this tourney has been) but dissapointing as well.
